What would you like to understand about this quote?

I've received a quote for $48,000 to renovate my kitchen and laundry. Before accepting it, I want to understand exactly what is included and whether anything important has been left out. I'm also concerned about the allowances and the possibility of additional charges once construction starts. Can you review the quotation and advise what I should clarify with the builder?

Briefly, what work is the quote for?

Renovating the existing kitchen and laundry in our single-storey home built in the late 1980s. The work involves removing the existing kitchen and laundry fittings, installing new cabinetry and a benchtop, plumbing and electrical alterations, new vinyl flooring, a tiled splashback, plastering and painting. We also discussed moving the kitchen sink approximately 600 mm along the existing wall.

No. This is the first quotation we have received. The builder was recommended to us, but we want an independent review before committing to the work.

Anything in particular that concerns you?

I'm concerned about whether moving the kitchen sink is included, whether the $3,000 benchtop allowance will be sufficient, and what happens if concealed damage is discovered during demolition. We haven't received the final cabinetry drawings, and I'm not sure whether the electrical work includes everything we discussed. I'd also like to understand what costs are excluded and how additional work would be approved and charged.
